More about the Map: Navigation

image of computer mouseWhen you organise a website in the form of a map you are implicitly inviting the visitor to jump in, explore and have some fun! To facilitate such exploration the BrainWareMap employs extensive navigation aids, which are described below.

One practical point to note. If you click on any of the highlighted red links on this page in order to view other illustrative maps and pages you should subsequently use your web browser's 'Back' button to return to this page.

The Main Map

  • When you initially enter the BrainWareMap you are presented with the Main Map. This is essentially the main navigation map or 'dashboard' for the map, and it would be useful to bookmark it. The Main Map presents you with a clickable colour-coded menu, from which you can select the particular topic or 'track' that you are interested in, such as Learning Skills, Personal Development or People. Just click on the chosen track button, and you will then be presented with a detailed map of that track. From the Main Map you also have direct access to this Introduction and the Search, Index, Glossary and News facilities. You also have access to the Whole Map (see below).

Track Maps

  • There is a track map for each major topic, e.g. Personal Development. This map illustrates the main elements of the topic, and it may encourage you to explore areas with which you are unfamiliar. If you click on a particular 'station' you will be presented with the 'wisdom page' for that topic, while clicking on the main title above the track will bring you an introductory page for that track. Each track map and its component pages has its own distinctive colour-coding, e.g. green for Personal Development. Clicking on the small circular red-and-green icon in the bottom right hand corner of the map will return you to the Main Map.

Wisdom Pages

  • Behind each station and title on the BrainWareMap there is an A4-sized page of key information about the topic, i.e. its wisdom page, the current page being an example. Each such page typically contains 'hot link' cross-references to other pages within the map: these are highlighted in red. A page may also contain other (URL) cross-references to pages outside the BrainWareMap: these are highlighted in blue.
  • In addition , each wisdom page contains a set off four clickable buttons in the top left hand corner (see above). The first of these will take you to the map of the current track, the second to the Main Map, and the third and fourth to the Search facility and Index, respectively. Finally, below the four buttons there is a string of location 'breadcrumbs', indicating where the station is positioned in the website's hierarchy of pages and providing convenient access to the higher levels.

The Whole Map

  • The Whole Map presents all tracks and stations in a single clickable display, and it is accessible from the Main Map. This form of the map is essentially the BrainWareMap's site map, and it enables you to browse generally across the whole creative learning territory. Note that in view of the map's large size you may need to use your browser's scroll bars to view some areas.
