It is the purpose of the Preface track to draw together all the introductory and other information which will help you to make optimum use of the BrainWareMap.

The Preface track consists of the following:
- This sub-track provides a description of the design concepts and navigation techniques which are the basis of the BrainWareMap, together with guidance on how to make optimum use of it. There are also contact details enabling you to provide feedback, and there is an acknowledgements section.
- Here you will find what Brainware Creative Learning is all about. You will also find details of its origins, initially in a PhD research project and then in a University of Edinburgh Freshers' Week workshop in 1985.
- Verbatim comments from participants at the various Brainware Workshops.
- The BrainWareMap has facilities, such as Search and Index, which will help to enhance your use of the map.

Searching the Web
The BrainWareMap should provide a useful gateway to information relevant to your interests. If, however, you are unable to locate the precise information you require via the map then you would obviously be advised to carry out your own direct search of the web. A very powerful search mechanism, providing access to billions of web pages, is the Google search engine. This can be accessed at: http://www.google.com/. Google is a highly sophisticated search engine, and in order to get the most out of it you are strongly recommended to work through the comprehensive and much praised Google Guide interactive tutorial. Another very promising facility, set up by an enthusiastic Google user, is Google Tutor & Advisor. Created recently, in early March 2005, this offers "tips, techniques and advice" and an expanding database of useful information.
