SEAL:
Society for Effective Affective Learning
My first encounter with SEAL was in 1989 when I attended its 3rd International Conference, entitled The Inner Game of Learning, at Bulmershe College of Higher Education in Reading. Several things struck me about the conference and about SEAL. Firstly, the whole thing was extremely friendly, with considerable efforts made to enable everyone to feel at home and 'included'. Secondly, I was struck by the eclectic and fascinating nature of the conference presentations, with topics including Suggestopedia, Autogenic Training, the Inner Game, NLP, Yoga, Lifespan Learning and the Musical Brain. Finally, everything was executed with so much fun! For example, intriguingly the workshop locations had been allocated imaginative names like Sun, Earth and Jupiter, while the Bar and Coffee Bar was given the name Bacchus! In many ways, SEAL was doing on a larger scale what I was promoting in my Brainware workshops.
