Theories
In the Brainware workshops I encouraged students to adopt an approach to learning, rather than a specific system or programme. This approach is essentially eclectic, pragmatic and personal. Thus, it is eclectic in that it is prepared to draw on any theories, ideas or perceptions which are interesting and useful. And it is pragmatic in the sense that what is important is what works. Finally, it is personal in that each person is different, and so it is vital to establish what works best for you and interests you, rather than to slavishly follow someone else's 'system'.
In the Brainware workshops, therefore, I related learning to a broad range of interesting ideas and theories, from Accelerated Learning to Zen Buddhism, with the invitation to explore and play with these. It is the purpose of the Theories track to highlight some of these ideas.
Types of Theories
The Theories track consists of the following three sub-tracks:
- This sub-track examines a range of learning theories, including holistic learning and Suggestopedia.
- This sub-track explores theories, such as inner game, which take into account the close link which exists between one's mind state and one's body state.
- The particular theories considered here, such as Transactional Analysis, deal with person-centred elements of psychology and relate to self-growth and life-long learning.
