Whole Brain

Vitruvian ManWhile it is commonly claimed that the human brain is the most complex organism in the Universe, we are still only on the threshold of understanding how it functions and how we might make best use of it. The purpose of the present sub-track is to examine the multi-faceted properties of our 'whole brain' in terms of mind, body and spirit. The primary objective is to seek an integration of these separate facets of the brain and an overall harmony and vitality.

The concept of 'whole brain' relates closely to that of holism, and more specifically to holistic learning. The characteristic principle of such approaches is that a single organism functions most effectively when all its component parts are themselves functioning co-operatively and effectively. Thus, for example, the brain is an integral part of the body, and if the body is maintained in a healthy condition then this should ensure that the brain and nervous system will receive adequate quantities of the appropriate resources needed (oxygen, nutrients, etc.) and so be able to function optimally. For other features of this interconnectedness of mind and body see Mind-Body.
